The Wedding Dresser

My daughter-in-law texted me one day (her primary method of communication) and asked if I had a vintage table of some kind. Her younger sister was getting married and having a vintage wedding. They were having the wedding outdoors (in early May) and needed someplace for the minister to set the Bible.
I didn't have any old tables, but I had this lovely old dresser. With its pretty pink glass knobs, it was perfect. They loved it, but wanted it to be off white. So, I tried some home made chalk paint. I had not used the unsanded grout recipe before and decided to go with it. It worked great, but I didn't like how it set up like plaster, mix a new batch with each coat. I would love to hear the solution to that.

Well, it snowed here and the ground was a mess, so the wedding had to be moved indoors. There ended up not being enough room for the dresser since space was so tight, but her parents ended up buying it for her as a keepsake from her wedding. I love seeing young people who love vintage pieces as much as I do. Sorry for the poor quality picture, but the weather was not cooperating to get it outside in the daylight!

I also made a blanket and Bumbo cover for the flower girls. Since my granddaughter still needs a little help sitting up and her cousin set behind her.
My darling grandson was the ring bearer, dressed like a little newsboy. And my daughter in law was a bridesmaid. It was truly a vintage wedding in an old converted barn. Really cool place!

As you can see in the background, they were feeding the cake to each other, while I was taking pictures of my kids, whoops.

Restyled Sundays 65

Welcome back to Restyled Sundays!
Another week gone by! Between work and the antique stores, I feel like I am meeting myself coming and going. On top of all of that, my Mom and Dad rented a storeroom last year when they moved into senior living. Its time to get everything out of there since they aren't ever going to use any of it. I learned the art of being a pack rat from two of the best, so this process has me really looking at simplifying my life as soon as possible.
Well, enough about me, let's take. Look at last weeks party.

Barbara from Decorating with Barbara has a great tutorial on makin your own Mercury Glass.

Denise from Denise on a Whim created a cute chalkboard with shelf out of an old chair back.
Thanks to everyone for following and sharing. I love hearing from you all so please leave a comment and I will get back with you!

Restyled Sundays #62

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays

I am actually writing this early, which is really odd since I never do anything
early. But, sweet hubby and I are driving today from Olathe, Kansas to
Chattanooga, Tennesee to pick up another dog. My niece was looking
for a new home for this sweet girl.
She will be one year old next Thursday and they can no longer
keep her, so we can't say no to such a sweet face.
Sophie will be our third dog, maybe we are crazy, but we love them all.
I am just praying now that Lady and Ellie like her.
I'll share more pics when I get her home!

Now I want to thank each of you that joined in to the party last week.
And thanks to all of you who just come to read. I really love to read
your comments, so be sure to let me know what your up to.

Kathryn from The Junk In Our Trunks found this gorgeous buffet
at a garage sale for $25. I need to go junking with her!

Cyndi from Blue Star Antiques created this amazing
table with a houndstooth pattern.

Susan from Simply Stone Creek turned an
old worn out dresser into this beauty!
I really love how Denise...on a whim redid a pair of plain
old stools with a few colors of chalk paint

Thanks again for sharing your projects. Tell your friends where you party!
Now let's see what you've been up to this week.

The Painted Hutch

It's a miracle, I finally finished a project! The china cabinet/ hutch that was sitting in my antique booth for over a year decided to come home for a makeover. Sorry, this is the best picture I could find. At least you can see how dark it was there in the background. Actually, my son painted the cabinet a while back. We had so much furniture in the antique store, I had just never gotten around to distressing and waxing it. And, of course, life gets in the way and things just sit 90% done.

We used homemade chalk paint with the unsanded grout recipe. The paint was bright white.

This cabinet had lots of details to distress. I love the way it came out.
I changed the wood knobs that were on it to some ORB knobs that I had found
on clearance at Target over a year ago.
These photos are at my booth at Lone Elm antique mall.
I thought I would get in the Valentines spirit  with the red and white.
More of the same detail at the top!

Turns out, somebody else liked it as much as I did. It
sold the third day it was there!

Thanks for visiting, be sure to come back tomorrow for Restyled Sunday's!

I am showing my hutch off at these parties, check them out!

Restyled Sundays #50

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays

It's so great to be back and get on a schedule again. I was talking yesterday to a friend about
how much we love January!  There is not alot going on, it's a time to reflect and reorganize. And, what better timing than after a crazy, busy, holiday like Christmas. I love Christmas, but I am so glad when it
is over and all cleaned up and put away.

January is definitely a time for refreshing our homes. Once we put all of those decorations away,
things can look a little bare and we feel the need to update. The owner of one of the antique stores
I am in told me along time ago, that January is the month to sell furniture. I guess she is right, because
I sold two dressers and a vanity this week!

Yeah, we always love a good furniture month.

So, now I am getting new projects finished to refresh the booth. I have
a buffet with hutch just about ready to go, can't wait to share with you.

The only before picture I can find is the dark cabinet in the background.
But now, I really want to see what you have been up to!

Still Alive and Trying to Survive

Once again it has been a month since I have posted. A lot has been going on and I never could have guessed what 2012 would bring to our family.
We sold our dental practice and we are still dealing with that transition. Two more weeks and we are finished. Lots of stuff to sell still from there. Anyone need a porcelain glazing oven? Ha!
My parents moved to a senior living complex and sold their house in less than a week. Lots of stuff to sell from there, also.
Our daughter sold her house and moved home in July. She has made offers on 6 houses as of today. The others were all turned down and this one is bank owned and it may take a while to find out if it is accepted. We have learned not to get excited about a house since the chances of getting it are unknown. We just keep moving on and she has had a great attitude, if it's not meant to be it's not meant to be.
Our next big event will be the arrival of our 7th grandchild, but only the second girl. She is actually due on the 27th, but she is already to go as far as the doctors say. Maybe just a few days!!
I have been able to get a few projects finished with the help of my son. If I could get him to work a little faster we would be all caught up with the furniture in the basement.

This lovely vanity and mirror belonged to a very dear friend of my mothers. It
was a chippy white but most of the top had chipped off.

So, we decided to paint it the palest blue with home made chalk paint.
It is finished with Annie Sloan's Clear Wax after light distressing.
You can see a little of the chippy white showing through on
the front edge. I think it turned out lovely.
She is now waiting for a new home at Sentimental Journey.

I Think I Am Alive and My Son Is A Painter

Whoa!  Ican't believe how long it has been since I last posted. I feel like I fell off the face of the earth.
In the last six weeks, we moved our daughter out of her house and temporarily into two storerooms and she is staying with us. She and her dog are so fun to have around, but there is a lot more chaos with them here.
We have been actively looking for a house for her, while continuing to try to organize and unload things from our office move and my parents move. I am going to do my best to get back on track with the blog here, I am sure life will eventually get back to normal, whatever that is, haha! I have missed posting, but it is amazing how hard it is to get started again, after you have been gone for a while.

Today, I am sharing this amazing wicker bakers rack that my son just painted for a lady at the antique store.
Brent is 27 with Asperger's Syndrome and has trouble working for someone else. He had worked for me at my office, and when we sold the practice, he was unemployed.

Of course, I forgot to take a picture before he started, but I found a similar one on the blog, Designs By Pinky .  The lines are a little different, but it shows the same dark wicker and rattan.

He has helped me paint before, but this is the first time he did a project by himself.
He used homemade chalk paint that I taught him how to make.
I helped with the distressing and waxing because he was busy trying to
finish another piece he is painting for the same lady.
I think he has found himself a new job!
I feel like a really proud mama!

house yesterday so now we only have one month to get everything out. I doubt if we will have
time to have an estate sale since we have to hae all of our dental eqiupment out of our old space by May 31st. We ave been trying to find a place to donate our equipment to, with no luck yet. I f you know of a charity that would like dental equipment, please let me know.

Now let's see what you have been sharing this weeek.

to this old tool box and framed it in vintage tape measures.
I would sure love to have this one.

homemade chalk paint and make the table legs appear dipped.
her ladder bookshelf. I love the bird shelf!

Finally, Chelsea from Kiss My Brass found Pyrex Madness
