The Definition of a Coffee Table

Thanks for stopping by to see what I am up to.
Don't forget to show me your stuff at Restyled Sundays linky
party every Sunday. There is probably one in progress now.

About two years ago, I stopped at a garage sale late one day and bought this coffee table and two end tables. Since it was late, he gave me all three for $5. I couldn't pass that up then, and probably not now, even though I am on a buying hiatus (so to speak). The other two tables have long ago been refinished and
sold, but this one just sat in the basement waiting for some love.
I painted it grey and really wanted to do something fun with the top.

A few dictionary pages and some Mod Podge and it was looking pretty cool.

I decided to add some of the larger illustrations on top of the rest.
I think it has a shabby chic vibe to it.

Wouldn't this make a fun conversation starter?

I hope someone else loves it as much as I do. Its for sale
at Lone Elm Antiques in Olathe, Kansas.

I Think I Am Alive and My Son Is A Painter

Whoa!  Ican't believe how long it has been since I last posted. I feel like I fell off the face of the earth.
In the last six weeks, we moved our daughter out of her house and temporarily into two storerooms and she is staying with us. She and her dog are so fun to have around, but there is a lot more chaos with them here.
We have been actively looking for a house for her, while continuing to try to organize and unload things from our office move and my parents move. I am going to do my best to get back on track with the blog here, I am sure life will eventually get back to normal, whatever that is, haha! I have missed posting, but it is amazing how hard it is to get started again, after you have been gone for a while.

Today, I am sharing this amazing wicker bakers rack that my son just painted for a lady at the antique store.
Brent is 27 with Asperger's Syndrome and has trouble working for someone else. He had worked for me at my office, and when we sold the practice, he was unemployed.

Of course, I forgot to take a picture before he started, but I found a similar one on the blog, Designs By Pinky .  The lines are a little different, but it shows the same dark wicker and rattan.

He has helped me paint before, but this is the first time he did a project by himself.
He used homemade chalk paint that I taught him how to make.
I helped with the distressing and waxing because he was busy trying to
finish another piece he is painting for the same lady.
I think he has found himself a new job!
I feel like a really proud mama!

house yesterday so now we only have one month to get everything out. I doubt if we will have
time to have an estate sale since we have to hae all of our dental eqiupment out of our old space by May 31st. We ave been trying to find a place to donate our equipment to, with no luck yet. I f you know of a charity that would like dental equipment, please let me know.

Now let's see what you have been sharing this weeek.

Kathe from Kath with an e found this adourable mexican couple
and used them to adorn her Cinco De Mayo tablesccape.

Angie with Knick of Time Interiors add a chalkboard element
to this old tool box and framed it in vintage tape measures.
I would sure love to have this one.

Miranda from Pressing On shared how to creaate some
homemade chalk paint and make the table legs appear dipped.
her ladder bookshelf. I love the bird shelf!

Finally, Chelsea from Kiss My Brass found Pyrex Madness
while thrifting recently. She sells her goods on ebay, so check her  out if
you are look for some good pieces.

Now lets see what you've been up to this week. If you have been featured, be sure to grab the

Restyled Sundays #36

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays

Once again it has been a really busy week, but at least I feel like we are beginning to get a grip on life.
I am starting to find my way around the new office and feel somewhat at home. I haven't done much yet to move out of the old office, but today I am going to spend the day there and pack and sort.
I spent the day at my mom's new house yesterday and hung her pictures. There is still alot to do,
but she is starting to get organized as well.  I was actually able to post once this week, if you didn't see my redo of a Duncan Phyfe table, be sure to check it out here.

Now, let's see what you all shared this week.
We had a really great party, thanks to everyone who joined in.
My favorites are:
I love this super functional kitchen island made from a pallet.
Check out Becky's transformation at Beyond The Picket Fence.
Stephanie from The Cozy Old Farmhouse took a set of Ikea
cannisters and made them look old with faux galvanized metal lids.
They turned out awesome!

JoAnn at life at 2810 shared the most interesting find.
No one seems to know what it was, but she turned it into a photo holder.
Be sure to check it out.
And finally, Cyndi from Blue Star Antiques share this updated foot
stool that she recovered with a stenciled piece of canvas.

Now, lets see what you have this week...

Restyled Sundays #31 and a Feed Sack Stool

Welcome Back To Restyled Sundays

I hope everyone had a great week. The weather has been beautiful in Kansas. Just enough rain to make the grass green and the flowers bloom, with lots of sunshine and warm temps. Perfect for those spray painting projects.  First of all today, I want to share a foot stool that I redid this week.
This is what I started with. A 3.99 footstool from Goodwill, with boring tapestry cover.
I unscrewed the lovely cushion, then  painted the legs Old White with ASCP.
I was planning on using some drop cloth with a transfer for the cushion, until I remembered some
old feed sacks that I had bought at a flea market. I tried one over the foam, it was perfect.

Cute? Huh? I think it is adorable. I love the old cotton feed sacks.
I would love to hear how you have used them.
Maybe we should have a party of feed sack one of these days.

Ok, let's see what you all shared last week. My favorites are...

This cute window box was transformed with chicken wire by Shabby Gals
What a perfect wall hanging to organize notes and keys!

This adorable pink vanity was originally a boys desk. Check out
the transformation at Freddy and Petunia.

I absolutely adore this pallet magazine rack from

This Vintage Easter Mantel  by Cottage and Creek is a wonderful collection of
flea market items pulled together for a holiday display.

And Sheila, from Note Songs showed us her spring wreaths for her
front doors. If you can't find flowers you love, make your own!

Thanks to everyone for joining in, now let's see what you've got this week!

Estate Sale Treasures

Saturday, my Mom and I happened across a
fabulous Estate Sale about a block from her house.
I found these amazing ship pictures and I had just recently started
scouring the antique stores for some for my family room.
There were 7 of them, so I bought them all,
and decided to keep these four for myself.

I really love the colors in the ones I have chosen for myself.
I am going to paint the frames off white. They really don't look as
good up close as in the picture. Plus, my walls are kind of dark.

This is an 1893 edition of Gray's Anatomy. I have a much newer one that
I studied from while in school, so this one was just too cool to pass up!

My mom found this amazing Duncan Phyfe buffet that she is going
to use for her big screen tv in their new place.
(I can't wait to show you how we decorate her new smaller home.)
I guess you can see where I get my traditional style.

We also got lot's of pictures and lamps and stuff at the sale, but I
want to show you my favorite buy of the week.
I found this beautiful mirror at Lone Elm Antiques where we have one of our booths.
It was their 1st anniversary and everything in the store was 15% off, so I had been
keeping my eye on this mirror for a week or so. It was still there when I got to the sale,
so now it is mine.  Just look at that sweet bird on top.

I don't even think I will paint it. It is just to perfect.
I will be sure to show you where it ends up when I find the right spot for it.
I hope I am not the only one who buys things without knowing
where I am going to put them. :)

Don't forget, Restyled Sundays is still going on through Friday.
I would love to see what you have found or restyled lately!
