Monday's Treasures

Maybe this needs to change to Tuesday's Treasures since I can't seem to get it posted on Monday's! Ok, I will give my self a break this week since it was Independence Day! Truth be told, I actually went thrifting yesterday and didn't even go watch fireworks. I have had a five day weekend, including today, from my day job. I am so exhausted from painting and sewing and painting and sewing, that I couldn't muster up the strength to go watch fireworks and fight the crowds.  I could hear plenty of them, and since my dog  is traumatized by loud noises, I spent the evening watching tv and holding her.

I do have one more treasure to share from my father-in-laws attic and I am really hoping to find more of this set when I go back to visit his attic again.  It is such a cool set and it was the set my husband remembers using when his was a child.

It is the Franciscan 'Starburst" pattern dinnerware. Kind of reminds me of fireworks! It is almost a complete set, so let's hope I find more!

Now onto this weekends finds. I went to the Salvation Army on Saturday and didn't buy anything the first time through. I was just out running errands, so I went on and finished those up. But, a certain picture I had seen there kept nagging at me to come back and get it, so I of course had to swing back by and pick it up. All pictures and furniture were 25% off, yeah! I only paid $7.50 for it.

I love lighthouses! Sorry, this picture is not good because I kept getting a glare, so I had to keep changing the angle. Anyway, it is the sweetest little lighthouse sitting on the desolate coastline, all by itself.
I really don't like the frame, so I will either paint it or find a new one,  but it will look great on my mantle.

I also picked up this sad little footstool while there. It was also 25% off.
Can't you just picture it with a pretty little drop cloth slipcover?

Yesterday, my daughter and I went to a couple of thrift stores we don't get to very often.
She found this little sled for me. I also have a little thing for sleds, and this one has real metal runners.
A little Christmas in July.

I also found these two directors chairs for $4 each and then they were having  30% off  of all chairs!
That's only $2.80 each. I swear I saw a remake of directors chairs and one of the linky parties this weekend and of course now I can't find them. If any one knows where they are, send me a link. Pretty please!!
I can't wait to do a cute makeover on these!

Last, but not least, I had to show you this beautiful maple vanity and stool that I bought from another dealer a few weeks ago. As you can tell, I have already started painting the stool. It looks white in the picture, but it is actually a very pale shade of pink.  She had it for sale for a couple of months and I kept ogling it. It seems almost sinful to paint this beautiful maple, but alas, noone wanted it as it was.
So, it is getting a coat of paint and we will see if it sells all freshened up.

Thanks again for visiting. If you enjoyed this post, I would love to have you as a follower!

Monday's Treasures

My week has been crazy, but this week I am getting this post up on Monday! Yeah!!
Back to my father-in-laws attic treasures I am taking you. We are getting down to the end of the great treasures until we can make another trip back up into the attic!

This sweet little vase pitcher is hand painted and came from Bavaria.

This is another vase I found. It has sculptured porcelain flowers and a fluted edge.
This little figurine of a gentleman helping a lady on with  her coat says it is from "Occupied Japan"
A cute salt and pepper shaker set that are replicas of a local grain mill.
Another set of salt and pepper shakers. These are also from 'Occupied Japan"
These sweet little porcelain boots are so dainty for display.
A pair of Ray Ban sunglasses from the 1950"s. Things don't change much, do they!
One of my favorite finds is these rooster salt and pepper shakers. One is sitting on top of a creamer and I am sure the other one is supposed to be on top of a sugar bowl.  I am praying the sugar bowl will still turn up.
Ok, that is sad, I should not be praying for a sugar bowl, but I love this set so much!

Once again, thanks for reading. I will be around more this week so watch for some great furniture transformations that I have finally completed.

Monday's Treasures

Again it is Tuesday and I am just now posting Monday's Treasures. Maybe I should start calling it Tuesday's Treasures. This weekend I lost my camera for three days. So today I finally found it at work. So tonight I finally took pictures of this weekends great buys. So you finally get this post. Oh my gosh that was so exhausting.

Well this weekend I went back to the new Major Thrift by the antique mall.  Major Thrift is pretty proud of their furniture, ir's usually more expensive than the the antique store. How sad is that?  However, they don't always know what they have and under price some of their accent pieces.  Plus, Sunday everything is 20% off, and you can't pass up 20% off!
I found this adorable little foot stool with fringe as big as the stool itself .

This very sweet vintage basket. This one is really old. I have a similar one that belonged to my great aunt and I believe it was from the 1920's.
I couldn't grab this glass cloche fast enough. It was marked $3.99 and then it was 20% off!
And it is huge, at least 8" in diameter.
I couldn't resist this adorable bear with it's holiday sweater.
I sort of have a thing for teddy bears, I will have to share more pics of those later.

From the antique mall, another vendor put this dated wicker sofa on sale for $95.
I am slightly obsessed with wicker and with some updating this can be really special.
And from my father-in-law's attic I love this candy jar with the eagle pressed into the glass.
I also wanted to share this very cool little puppet  from his attic. I wish I knew more about this,
so if anyone knows anything about these vintage paper toys, let me know!
Thanks again for visiting.

Monday's Treasures- This and That

Today I thought I would take a break from my attic treasures and show you some things I found while out thrifting. I had to go do some shopping this week, a girl can't stay out of the thrift stores forever!

I found this adorable cloche at the antique mall that I sell at.
It is actually made out of a glass candle holder with a cute little bird glued on, I may have to try this myself.
(Yes, I am supposed to be selling things there, but I can't resist some of the great buys there.)

There is a new thrift store in the same shopping center as Lone Elm Antique Mall, and I found this adorable cigar box purse there. What a cute 50's vintage print on this one.
This amazing frame was just sitting there waiting for me when I walked into the Salvation Army store.
It was marked $30, but it was 25% off of all pictures and frames that day!

I actually bought this desk several weeks ago at another thrift store in town. We set it in the booth until we had enough space at home to paint it.  It sold before we had the chance.
Finally this weekend, I took my mom to a couple of estate sales and she bought a whole bunch of great pieces for the booth. This hand painted side table is so sweet.
l
She also found a pair of these adorable vintage chairs with the embossed seat. They are in perfect condition.
They came with a cute little ice cream table that I will get a picture of next time I am at the booth.

Thanks for visiting. I love all of your sweet comments.

Monday's Treasures - A Rainbow of Glassware

I now own a rainbow of glassware after visiting my father-in-laws attic.  It amazes me how many different styles and colors of glassware came out of the decades from the 20's to the 50's, referred to as depression glass. The many US glass manufacturers had some serious competition going with each other and created some beautiful designs.

My favorite is the cobalt glass. I did some research on this and found that it was created by the Hazel Atlas Glass Company from Washington, PA.

This is pink depression glass. It was made by various manufacturers including Anchor Hocking and the Indiana Glass Company.

This peach opalescent glass is one of the more common depression glass shades.

I love this Royal Ruby Glass collection which began production in 1938 by Anchor Hocking Glass Co.

This is called Vaseline Glass. I'm sorry about the picture quality, but it is a very light shade of green and actually glows in a black light. Very cool stuff.

This is a very unusual piece. It is a measuring cup made of green glass. It says pat. pend. on the bottom.

Last, but not least, is this pait of toothpick holders. the right one is pressed glass which was probably pre-depression era. The left one is called Jadite. It was made by Fire-King glassware.

Alot of this glassware is going to the antique store, I wish I could keep it all, but I'm sure there are people out there who would love to add to their collections.
