Pink Ruffles and Blooms

I had a little fun making some ruffly pink throw pillows the other day. I am realizing how much I still love pink.  I had a pink room when I was a little girl, but when we grow up and get married, we feel like we have to go with something more gender neutral. I also had five boys and one girl and after she was big enough to pick her own room colors she chose anything but pink.  Well, thanks to all of you in blogland, and the fact that my boys have grown up, I am starting to incorporate some pink into our guest room. The guest room is mostly yellow, but with a floral theme, so I am adding pink where I can to satisfy my love for pink.

I had some pink satiny bias tape that I was never going to use. So I took some pink fabric and ruffled the pink bias tape in rows on one piece and a circular pattern on the other. It takes a while to get that circle just right, (I only took it off twice) but patience is a virtue as my father taught me, and I finally got it to wind around just like a rose. I then added the pillow back, stuffed with batting and sewed the edge shut.

Tada! My pretty pink pillows. I was going to take a  picture of them on the guest bed, but someone is sleeping in there now. So, I will share my pretty pink hydrangea blooms.

I have three of these plants in front of the house. I hope someday they will get very large, like the pictures I see in all of the magazines, but for now I will enjoy their lovely blooms.

Pink is so lovely! Enjoy your Sunday.
I can't wait to share my thrifting finds with you tomorrow on Monday's Treasures.

Celtic Friendship Pillow

This is a repost from my old sewing blog "Stitch Daily"

I love, love, love celtic designs! So when I saw this one at Embroidery Library , I had to have it. Of course it set it my computer for a few months before I figured out what I wanted to do with it, but I am very happy with how it turned out.
I embroidered it on a natural piece of cotton duck, and then pieced the accent colors around my design. I have always loved orange and brown together, so these colors seemed perfect to complement my embroidery. I had a great plaid with the browns and rust colors for the back that was a good upholstery weight. I then wanted to finish the edge with piping to break up the fabrics from the front to the back. I covered some rope piping with a lightweight brown suede and placed that between the front and back. Then of course, I stuffed the pillow and stitched it closed by hand. What a fun project this was.

All Around London

This couch was my daughter's first slipcover! Can you believe how great this looks? Check out her complete post over at Who Makes Up This Craft. She was featured today on Pink and Polka Dot's Fridays Featured Slipcovers along with some other cute slipcovers. I love the slipcovered lampshade that was also featured. So, I have to brag about the pillows on her couch. I made them for her. They were embroidery designs of famous places in London. She visited there shortly after she graduated from KU and loved, loved, loved it.
First off is Big Ben.
The Eye of London.
Westminster Abbey.
The Tower of London.
And, St Paul's Cathedral.
All bordered in some of her favorite fabrics and trimmed with navy velvet trim.
I hope you enjoyed seeing more pillows!
Thanks for visiting.

Valentines Exclusive (A Few Days Late)

My sweet adorable husband decided to create a delicious Valentines dinner for me the other night. He is learning to cook in a whole new way since I became a vegetarian about 18 months ago. We had bow tie pasta with a white wine sauce, kalamata olives, sundried tomatoes and artichoke hearts. Fresh baked garlic bread and Apple Crumb pie for dessert. He was so thoughtful and I really enjoyed the whole meal. We had promised not to spend anything for Valentines day this year, so I had to come up with something creative. We have started watching the new show called @#?/ My Dad Says, with William Shatner. A few weeks ago the dad and his new girlfriend were discussing becoming exclusive. My husband asked if he had ever signed anything about being exclusive :) and I started laughing so hard. Anyway, we kept asking each other about being exclusive ever since. This sound's like we haven't always been exclusive, but we are just kidding,we have been together for 27 years, it's just about the word. So, I had to make him a pillow with the definition on it. I designed it on my embroidery lettering software and stitched it out. Our bedroom is navy and white, so it will go on our bed as a fun reminder of our exclusivity!

Tween Bedroom Makeover

misc 118

For my granddaughter's birthday I decided to make her new bedding. I started with the plaid fabric that I already had. And since her favorite color is this turquoise blue, it was the perfect start, or so I thought. I backed it with a solid blue that I got at Wal-mart, which turned out to be her preference, so her it is reversed!

Naturally, a twelve year old girl has to have something really cool and fun, so I found the exact turquoise to match in the super soft eyelash fabric at Joann's and made two euro shams and added in a white eyelash sham to go with them. Lastly, I appliqued some throw pillows in various shapes for accents with her name, initial and a couple of cute flowers. To my relief, she was thrilled! (You never know with twelve year olds.)

Her mom and dad even painted the room to match a few weeks later. I will show those picks when I find the pics of the chair cushion I made her to go with all of this.
