Monday's Treasures and Mother's Day Gifts

Mother's Day was fabulous. We went to our middle son's house for lunch. He cooked burgers and corn on the cob on the grill. Our Grandon Connor will be three on Thursday, so we decided to celebrate it yesterday, since we would all be together anyway. He had a birthday cake with Woody from Toy Story on it. I think he enjoyed licking the icing off of the candles better than blowing them out. Here, he was trying to dip the candle back in for more icing and dad had to stop him. Come on, it is his cake, is there no double dipping on your own cake?

Mother's Day was awesome. My kids showered me with gifts. I can always count on my boys for flowers. It's so perfect that Mother's Day comes when we are ready to plant!

My Mom was so sweet to give me flowers as well. Look at these beautiful hanging baskets.

A couple of weeks ago, for no reason at all, she bought this really cool blue tool box full of pansies. I am so lucky to have such an amazing mom!

My one and only daughter (Jenni from Who Makes Up This Craft) always comes up with something really special. I love this adorable purse my daughter made.

And look at what else she made! A curled book page wreath. I was so surprised.

All of those pages she cut and rolled. Is that the sweetest mother's day gift? I know how much work she puts in everything she makes. Thanks so much Jen, I love you!

Now, on to Monday's Treasures!!!

This week I brought out all of the milk glass that came from my father-in-law's attic. I remember having milk glass around when I was little. It was pretty then, but I think it is even prettier now. Isn't it great when things come back in style. All of the younger crowd think they have found something new and wonderful. Getting older is so great! I had never seen milk glass candlesticks like these. So unique and simple. A pretty plate, a candy dish and a sugar bowl.Somewhere there must be a creamer to go with it.

Unfortunately, this cake plate came out of the box like this.I really do love it and my sweet hubby is gonna help me glue it back together. I won't be able to put cake on it, but what a pretty display piece it will make. Many of these pieces will be in my booth at Sentimental Journey or Lone Elm Antiques. It's The Weekend and I'm Ready To Paint!

I am so happy it's the weekend and I am not hosting Mother's Day this year (so I don't have to spend the day cleaning the house)! Instead, I can paint. I think I showed you this table and chairs that I picked up a couple of weeks ago. I now have it sanded and the chairs are primed. Gotta love Kilz Spray Primer for chairs. I have them ready to go, well almost ready to go. I still have to prime this last one, but it is completely sanded.

The table is sanded down to bare wood because it had some very deep scratches in it. Boy it took some serious elbow grease to get it smooth.

So that is my project for today. I can't wait to show you the finished project. So while you are waiting, I am gonna show you that I have accomplished something with paint this week.

Here are two spray paint projects I finished this week.

I love these candlesticks. They are tall, they are ornate and they were perfect to paint and distress. I did them to sell in the antique mall, but it may be a little difficult to let them go.

Girl's Only!

So this is the desk I showed you last week. It started out as a really bad paint job, $5 garage sale deal! I mean really bad paint job! They hadn't even painted the back side of the legs. And some really boring silver knobs that did nothing to help. And, here it was last week after a lot of sanding and a couple of coats of Krylon's Watermelon. Of course, I lucked out and found some really cute knobs at Hobby Lobby on sale! Yeah for 50% off sales. I wish I knew what else I might need when they have their sales. So, here she is now. A cute little chair, a sweet lamp that I found at another antique mall for $3 and a fabric remnant that has been sitting on my shelf, waiting for just the right project to come along.

I made the cushion for the chair in the pink and green paisley. It's vintage, but with a great young appeal.

There was just enough left over to cover the lamp shade. Thank goodness for hot glue! I had this cute little green ruffle trim and added that to the shade for a little something extra.

Once again, the chair with it's cushion.

And the cute green ties in the back.

I am lovin' it and think some cute tween girl will, too!

It'll be at the antique store this weekend.

Monday Treasures Begins

I did not mean to be gone for a week, but life was a little crazy this last few days. I have actually spent alot of the week researching so many items I found when I unpacked my boxes from my father-in-law's attic. I have decided to start a new series of posts on Monday's called Monday's Treasures. Not only do I have these things from my father-in-laws attic, but of course still go thrifting on the weekends, so why not show them off on Mondays? Maybe one day I will start a linky party to have you all share your treasures as well. What do you think? So today, I will start with some of the goodies I have unpacked from the attic boxes. Actually, here is a picture of my pool table covered in treasures. It is almost overwhelming to have this all in front of me at once.

Sorry, not a great pic, but I think you get the idea. I also have a table and counters covered in my kitchen. And even my hearth as you can see here, this is a partial set of Franciscan Starburst Pottery. My husband remembers eating on these dishes everyday as a child. When his grandmother died, it went in the attic and they started using her dishes, which his dad still uses today.

A close up of the platter. I would definitely call this mid century modern. And it is bringing a pretty decent price on e-bay. There is alot of it missing and I am sure there must be more back in the attic, so I will probably pack it back up until I can get the whole set together.

This is a four piece set (sorry, the plates are in the other room) of cobalt blue glassware. I identified it as a product of the Hazel-Atlas glass company from the 1940's and 50's.

Now onto thrifting over the weekend, we thought we would hit a couple of garage sales and ran across this bedroom set from the 1930's. I was pretty excited to hear it was only $100 for the whole set. The vanity has a piece of trim missing above the drawer on the left, so I will have to see if I can find something close, or replace the trim on the whole thing.

I loooove the round mirror that goes over the vanity. It shows its age, but i think that gives it character. The trim over the top is beautiful.

The bed is a full size and was complete with the footboard, headboard and side rails.

I can't wait to get to work painting her. I think she will look beautiful in an off white. And last but not least is the tall chest. I am not crazy about the handles, so I will have to find a set that will be suitable. Hobby Lobby here I come! Watch for this at the antique mall.

My last treasure for the weekend was another garage sale that we hit on our lunch hour on Friday. I bought a chair and a few other small things and when I was paying I spotted this box full of lanterns buy the door. $5.00 for the whole box!!! Do those look Pottery Barn like or what?

They are a little dirty, but I can clean them up pretty easy! Bonus!!! Oh and there is also a spoon rack in the box. I have a project in mind for it that I saw on blogland.
