Restyled Sundays #59

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays!

I decided to wait today until everyone had time to spend with their families on Easter.

We are so blessed to have family to be with on this Holy Day.

Yesterday our family had a huge gathering at our house. We did the Easter Egg

hunt in the rain, then had brunch a lot's of fun and conversation followed.

Everyone was able to come, so it was great.

Today, we went to lunch at my parents senior living facility.

They had prime rib for all, but being a vegetarian, I chowed down on the

veggies and had a wonderful baked sweet potatoe. Yum, nothing better.

We had a great party last week, and I want to tell you the weatherman was

right on with the forecast. We got 9" of snow on Sunday morning, but it was

all gone by Friday. Yeah! I really hope that was the end of it.

Now I want to share my favorites from last week.

Lynda from Something Created Everyday went shopping and here is

one of my favorite thrifting finds in a long time. Can't you just picture

those jars with fresh flowers as a centerpiece?

Joy at A Vintage Green found this chair a a sale and it sure

didn't look like this. Check out her handy hubby's amazing makeover.

This little cabinet is such a unique shape and now it is

Restyled Sundays #58

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays!

Well, I disappeared once again. But, this time we actually got our daughter moved

into her house. I have spent the last three weeks painting and lining shelves to get her

ready to move in. There is still alot to do, but at least she is in and I am able to spend

some time at home and get my house back together. I sure did love having her here,

but I am sure we are both glad to have our own spaces again.

Last time I posted, we had been trying to survive snowmageddon. Well, today we

are getting nailed with snow again. We are supposed to get 9-10" overnight tonite.

Maybe I can get some projects finished while I am stuck in the house.

Even though it's been a couple of weeks since the last party, I still want to thank everyone for

sharing. I am still going to share my favorite projects.

I'm really impressed with this Message Center that

Denise..On A Whim created from an old crate lid.

I had never heard the term cerusing until I

saw this nightstand by Barb of Turtles and Tales. Awesome!

I have a thing about birds lately, so I really love this sign by

Pam from Adventures in Home Improvement

I would sure love to see what you all have been up to. Decorating,

sewing, painting and anything fun or creative.

And, hopefully I will be back to creating a little this week.

Restyled Sundays #57

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays

Sorry I missed the party last week and have been out of touch. We have been dealing

with the Blizzard of OZ times Two. I did get some beautiful pictures, but we had 12" of snow

a week ago Thursday, and then another 12" this last Tuesday. For someone who thought

that Spring was almost here, I was not prepared. So I made soup and pie and lots of goodies

and did nothing but paperwork for two weeks .I was suffering from gray skies and a

lack of inspiration.

The trees were completely bent over by the weight of the snow.

Such a beautiful winter wonderland.

These yews normally completely hide the utility box.

At least it was interesting to look at. But I am so happy that

we are going to hit 40 degrees today and see some melting.

Anyway, back to the party!

Restyled Sundays #56

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays 

It is really true that you never know what tomorrow will bring, but when my 

daughter in law called me on Tuesday in tears, I was really shocked.

There house had caught on fire. It was nearly a total loss, and worst

of all, they lost their dear sweet dog Buddy. It was Gods blessing that 

they were not home and everyone is safe. They apparently had a faulty

switch on the stove and it turned itself on. It was a glass top range, and they

frequently set things on top of it since they did not have alot of counter space.

Now, they begin the overwhelming task of rebuilding. They are doing well,

and have some great support systems, but it will take time. Please, keep

Mike, Laura, Connor and Alaina in your prayers. And if you would, please

say a word for Buddy as well.

Welcome Back To Restyled Sundays!

Wow, another week slipped by and I did not post once. 

I had such great intentions, but I have to realize that I can only do 

what I can do. We have some great finds that I can't wait to share from

our daughters house makeover. But, this week ever spare minute went

to painting, painting, and more painting. Add working four days this week

and you can see why there were no extra posts :(.

I really was excited to see the great projects and finds that you all shared

this week at Restyled Sundays. I wish I could feature you all, but I will

Moving In Tips-Nasty Bathroom Cabinets

With our daughter in a new house and so many projects to do, I thought I would share some of the things we are fixing up as we go. Fortunately, she didn't have to move in immediately, since she is living with us. So, we can go in a fix things first, then she can move in. Her house is about 25 years old and was all builder grade quality when new. Now it's old builder grade in lots of ways, with some really nice quality in others. I  will get to those areas as we go, but now I'm gonna show you how I fix some things on a budget.

The bathroom cabinets are the originals, and the floor of the base cabinets (under the sinks) were disintegrating. That lovely old particle board only holds up so long after shampoo and cleaners spill on it. As I was scraping up the nasty residue, the particle board fell apart. Ugh...

She does not have the budget to replace the cabinets, so while we were at Home Depot we picked up some peel and stick tile at 30 cents a square foot.

I'm not really in love with the fake wood look, but it was the smoothest and cheapest choice.

I thought there was only 12 in a box, so I made her buy two boxes. Wen we got it home, I realized

there were 45 pieces per box. Bonus,some of this is going in the return to Home Depot pile.

I cleaned the cabinet bases as well as I could, first with a vacuum, then with a wet rag.

I started laying the tile in the left front cornet of the cabinet and

 just matched the edges up until I got to the pipes.

Then, I took the paper I had peeled off of the first tiles and used it as a template to cut around the pipes.

I had a handy dandy utility knife and just cut the paper to fit.

It cuts very easily with my super sharp utility knife.

Be sure you don't use an old blade, it is no fun to tear tile.

The pieces just break out after you score it.

Slide the cut out and it should fit right in.

I cut of a little piece of the excess and filled in the side.

I had to cut a narrow strip for the side since the cabinet was wider than two feet.

Now it is clean and smooth with no more sawdust.

And, you can wipe up any spills without a mess.

Wah Lah! Clean and fresh cabinet bases on a budget!
