Let's End This Year Once and For All

The end is near and I couldn't be happier. The end of 2012 that is! It has really been a wonderful year for us, but the pace was really overwhelming.  I finally have a sense of renewal and feel like I am moving forward in a very positive direction! Those of you who have followed me have heard alot of my trials and tribulations. Now, I am getting back to the things I love. Thrifting, antiquing and sewing. I have a painted project started, and hope to finish it before the weekend.  I will definitely start Restyled Sundays back up this weekend, so get your projects ready. I'll be back tomorrow to share my plans for the year. 2012 was a big crash and burn on the restyling front. But, I was able to reach some other big life goals that will enable me to have more time for the joy in life.

I'll see you right here tomorrow. I am not setting resolutions, just goals and desires. Don't go to crazy partying tonight.

Restyled Sundays #49

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays!

Another fast week has flown by and we are actually in Texas today as I write this.
My husband has an older 928 Porsche and we like to go to gatherings in various
parts of the country. This time it is the Texas Hill Country, actually Marble Falls, TX
It is north of Austin, southwest of Dallas. It is beautiful in a different way.

My heart has truly been with the people in the Northeast this week, trying to
survive the devastation of Sandy. I pray for them all and for the families that have
lost loved ones.

Thanks to those of you who did share last week!
I love this shabby chair makeover by Shabby Gals
Just check out those cute little wheels.

boring little cabinet at a garage sale and turned it into this adorable cabinet.

And Helen from Shades of Safhire crocheted this adorable Mickey Mouse
hat for her niece. I wish I had learned to crochet!

Thanks again for sharing. I hope you all have some fun things to share this week

Restyled Sundays #48

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays

It was really a great week here. I worked my last day in transitioning our dental
practice. I still have to work a few days here and there to help my husband in our
nursing home dental care program, but I feel like the weight of the world has been
lifted off my shoulders. Now I can begin to put my house back together and
focus on Thanksgiving, which we are supposed to host for about 25 people.
With 26 days left, I have a lot to do.

Wow, you guys had some great posts to the party last week.

I love the Halloween decorations at Kathe with an E
she had some great ideas.

Paul from One Creative Couple shared two tutorials
on how to create Mercury Glass and creating distressed metal.

Finally, Shabby Gals transformed a dark console table to a very sweet look.

Thanks everybody for sharing. I can't wait until I see what you've got this week.

Restyled Sundays #47

Welcome Back To Restyled Sundays!

Wow! I actually made it back to start the party!  The other day I mentioned my newest grandchild
would be coming any day, well she actually came that night.
Alaina Jean was born at 3:45 am on Tuesday, October 16th.
She weighed in at 6lbs 13oz and was only 18" long.  She is a
sweet little petite angel. Her big brother is crazy about her already,
as well as mom and dad and all of the rest of us. I am a redhead and so is her father
(I had 3 redheads and 3 brunettes) and she has a hint of red in her hair.
We are so excited to say the least!

My daughter and I made her bedding and just got it done last week.
Had to take these pics with my IPhone. I hope to get some good pictures this weekend.
Still have to finish the window treatments, so I hope to get those done this week.

I do want to feature my favorite project from our last party.
Shabby Gals shared this vintage wheel turned picture frame.
How sweet would this look in Alaina Jeans room?
I may just have to find something like this to copy.
Now let's get the party started!!

Still Alive and Trying to Survive

Once again it has been a month since I have posted. A lot has been going on and I never could have guessed what 2012 would bring to our family.
We sold our dental practice and we are still dealing with that transition. Two more weeks and we are finished. Lots of stuff to sell still from there. Anyone need a porcelain glazing oven? Ha!
My parents moved to a senior living complex and sold their house in less than a week. Lots of stuff to sell from there, also.
Our daughter sold her house and moved home in July. She has made offers on 6 houses as of today. The others were all turned down and this one is bank owned and it may take a while to find out if it is accepted. We have learned not to get excited about a house since the chances of getting it are unknown. We just keep moving on and she has had a great attitude, if it's not meant to be it's not meant to be.
Our next big event will be the arrival of our 7th grandchild, but only the second girl. She is actually due on the 27th, but she is already to go as far as the doctors say. Maybe just a few days!!
I have been able to get a few projects finished with the help of my son. If I could get him to work a little faster we would be all caught up with the furniture in the basement.

This lovely vanity and mirror belonged to a very dear friend of my mothers. It
was a chippy white but most of the top had chipped off.

So, we decided to paint it the palest blue with home made chalk paint.
It is finished with Annie Sloan's Clear Wax after light distressing.
You can see a little of the chippy white showing through on
the front edge. I think it turned out lovely.
She is now waiting for a new home at Sentimental Journey.

I am linking to the following parties:

Restyled Sundays #46

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays!

Well, another week of house hunting with my daughter and another offer rejected. I guess there is still a very slim chance on that house, but the owners son through his hat in the ring. Obviously, he should have a chance, but he has to sell his house first, so buy the time they get around to making a decision, months may go by. So, we are looking again. New listings have been slow coming on the market lately, so to say the least, she is getting discouraged. I have been praying for something good to be out there for her. We must keep the faith.

Thanks for all of the great posts last week. You guys have some impressive talent!

Copper Tub 002

Pam from Adventures in Home Improvement found this great copper bucket in not so great condition for $10. She brightened it up and has it in her laundry room to collect wet towels. Pretty spiffy,Pam!

buffet3

Cyndi from Blue Star Antiques. turned an old buffet with serious issues into a real beauty. One door was missing and she made that work to her advantage. I love this makeover.

Whole-kitchen-after

Karen from Redoux Interiors made over this kitchen with nothing but paint. What an amazing job!

DSC08395

Angie from Knick of Time Interiors painted this vintage looking sign with CeCe Caldwell paint. She loved how it went on and created a very cute sign!

Now let’s see what you have been up to this week!

Restyled Sundays #45

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays !
Thanks to all of you who are still around and especially those who shared a post last week.
I am slowly digging out of the mess at my house, but did get my folks down to one storeroom last week. Yeah! We have to take little victories as they come. :)
My son is busy painting a vanity that is going to be beautiful, I can't wait to show it to you.
He delivered the first two projects to his client last week and she was thrilled. Maybe he has a new business sprouting. He is really enjoying it.
Now, let me show off my favorite projects from last week:
Paul and Cathy from One Creative Couple took an old
chair and turned it into a masterpiece!

Lynn from Cottage and Creek transformed an old sad table into
a simply lovely side table.

Catherine from Freddy and Petunia took an old wall lamp and
gave it some out of this world character!
Now let's see what you have been up to this week!

Restyled Sundays #44

Welcome Back to Restyled Sundays

Well it's been a while, so I will just share a little look
into my life before you post your makeovers.

This is my living room. It has been this way for over 2 months.
It was actually worse, but I cannot seem to get through it all.

And, this is one of my parents storerooms. It is depressing.
I'm not sure why I am showing this, but it is motivating to me to
look at it this way.

Anyway, I need inspiration, so show me what you have been doing this week.

I Think I Am Alive and My Son Is A Painter

Whoa!  Ican't believe how long it has been since I last posted. I feel like I fell off the face of the earth.
In the last six weeks, we moved our daughter out of her house and temporarily into two storerooms and she is staying with us. She and her dog are so fun to have around, but there is a lot more chaos with them here.
We have been actively looking for a house for her, while continuing to try to organize and unload things from our office move and my parents move. I am going to do my best to get back on track with the blog here, I am sure life will eventually get back to normal, whatever that is, haha! I have missed posting, but it is amazing how hard it is to get started again, after you have been gone for a while.

Today, I am sharing this amazing wicker bakers rack that my son just painted for a lady at the antique store.
Brent is 27 with Asperger's Syndrome and has trouble working for someone else. He had worked for me at my office, and when we sold the practice, he was unemployed.

Of course, I forgot to take a picture before he started, but I found a similar one on the blog, Designs By Pinky .  The lines are a little different, but it shows the same dark wicker and rattan.

He has helped me paint before, but this is the first time he did a project by himself.
He used homemade chalk paint that I taught him how to make.
I helped with the distressing and waxing because he was busy trying to
finish another piece he is painting for the same lady.
I think he has found himself a new job!
I feel like a really proud mama!

Restyled Sundays #43 (I'm Back)

Welcome Back To Restyled Sundays

I am sorry for the unannounced leave of absence, but just when I thought life
couldn't get any busier, it did. And, once you skip posting for a week or so,
it gets harder and harder to sit back down. We have spent hours and hours with
our daughter looking for a new house for her. We have seen many things she liked,
but there is always something wrong. She did make an offer on one house, but
someone else made an offer about 10 minutes before she did.
Anyway, she has to be out of her house in 10 days and she finally decided to take
a break from looking and get packed. She is going to put her stuff in storage and
stay with us until she finds the perfect house.

I know it has been three weeks, but I am still going to feature my favorites
from the last Restyled Sundays, so here they are.
Barb from Turtles and Tails created this very cool patio
bar with her husbands help.

Homer Laughlin Egg Cup at the Salvation Army.
Check those out on E-bay!
photo to create this amazing vintage dresser.

Thanks to everyone who stuck around while I was gone. I hope you will all join in
for this weeks Restyled Sundays.

Restyled Sundays #42

Welcome Back To Restyled Sundays

Another week, another move in motion. I am pretty sure that I mentioned a few months ago
that my daughters house was on the market. She was living about 25 minutes south
of us and even farther from her brothers. She has a really nice house, but was ready to move on.
This week her house sold and she has to be out by July 25! She had sort of been looking at
houses, but did not want to buy with a contingency that hers sold. So, yesterday we went looking
and we actually viewed about  20 houses. We had a few drive buys that we decided not to
even go through once we saw them. There were a couple of  good contenders, and my favorites
were closest to my house. :) A mom can always hope to have her children close by.:) We will be back out looking on Monday.  I really hope she can find a great one soon or she will be back home until she can.
That's ok too, but I hate to see her have to put her furniture in storage.

You all had some awesome posts this week!
Here are some of my favorites, thanks for sharing.

This awesome cabinet was painted by Miranda
of Pressing On.  Love It!!!

And, in keeping with the theme here, Barbara at 21 Rosemary Lane
turned some plain old end tables into something special for her sons room.

Amazing Karen from Redoux took an old castoff country
dresser and transformed it into this industrial chic piece for her
master bedroom. Check out the before!

Brenda from Cottage 4C turned a very basic armoire
into a really cool vintage looking piece .

Thanks to all of you who shared this week. Now lets see what you've got this week!
