Antiquing On The Road and In the Attic

I really didn't disappear, I just have been so busy with my father-in-law visiting for his 90th birthday and work, that I didn't get a chance to post for the last week. I do have some great posts coming, however, with a lot of new finds I have obtained over the last week. First, I want to share some great buys that I found on Thursday when I went out of town with my parents on a quick business trip. We finished our work earlier than expected and my wonderful father let my Mom and I spend a little time in two different antique malls along the highway. I have always wanted to stop in one of these malls, but it always seems like we are in too much of a hurry.
This beautiful pink vase may not be that old, but it was so pretty and a great buy.
I just had to have it. I haven't decided whether I'll keep it or sell it.
This pretty little gold framed mirror will look so pretty with perfume bottles on it. I am not sure of the background of this little lady, but she is actually a bell.
A pretty little blue and white box will be perfect for jewelry in my bathroom.
Two great Blue Ball jars and a clear one for $1.50 apiece.
A cute little glass lamp, with the most adorable shade ever.
And my best antique mall find was this pink ceramic rooster.
I have several white roosters, but I have never seen a pink one. On Saturday, on his 90th birthday,we took my father-in-law home to Central Illinois.
I had no idea we were going to start cleaning out his attic, but he wanted us to take all of
'that junk' up there home and sell it in the antique store if there was anything of value.
I have been married to my husband for 27 years and had never been in his parents attic.
They had lived in this same house for over 40 years and my mother-in-law passed away about
12 years ago. Since she has been gone he has hardly been up in the attic at all.
So up the attic folding stairs I went. I can't believe I didn't take my camera up there, but I will be sure to take some pics when I go back. He told me there was some old green glassware up to the left of the stairs and I expected to find a couple of boxes. I never thought I would see what I saw. Almost every square inch of the attic was stuffed with boxes and lots of other goodies.
I started opening boxes and looking in, but there was just too much to even begin to look at. I started handing boxes down to my husband. We ended up bringing home about 25 boxes, and some other great goodies you will see some hints of below, but had to put several things back up in the attic because it would not all go in the car. We considered leaving the dog there so we could get more in, but we decided to bring her home instead. On the way home we decided to make a couple of more trips this year to try to clear it out.
Here are a few pics to tease you,
but look for many more posts as I unpack all of these boxes!
A box full of Franciscan Pottery dishes that my husband remembers eating on as a child.
An old soda box that my father-in-law stood on to direct music.
Hats, hats and more hats! Wait till you see these!
Even the boxes are amazing.
Probably one of the most beautiful typewriters I have seen in long time.
And, a lot more stuff to unpack!
Yes, that is an old porcelain bedpan sitting on top.
