Shabby Chic Desk Makeover

I am so excited to reveal the updated desk that I showed you a few weeks ago. I can't tell you how much I learned in the process of this makeover.
Here she is before. Not really all that bad, but definitely needed to be brought up to date.
She had a few scratches, but worst of all a formica top. At $18.00 on the last day of an estate sale, I couldn't resist the challenge. She is very solid and has tons of storage.
Here we are after a coat of oil based primer. I used oil based because of the laminate top.
And here she is in all of her glory! I used Kilz Cashmere White on the desk and Krylon Oil Rubbed Bronze on the original hardware. I actually tried some new hardware and it just didn't look right. She is lookin' pretty sassy now! I did some mild distressing.
And tried my hand at the Minwax paste wax in clear.
I am in love with it. It gives the most wonderful finish. It feels silky and smooth.
It takes a little elbow grease, but I think it is much simpler than poly.
A close up of the distressing.
Of course I had to give her a proper chair to match!
Now she is ready to get down to business.
Thanks for visiting and welcome to my new followers.
I love having you all drop by.

  13. Hey Ann, It looks great. I've been using paste wax for awhile now and I love the nice soft sheen. I've been wanting to try the Minwax dark pastewax and couldn't find it anywhere. The Ace Hardware on Santa Fe and Clairborne ordered it for me if you want to try it sometime.
